to make his NHL debut in his home state in front of many friends and family as part of an extraordinary night The amazing run of events began on March 24 2017 That night Boeser’s sophomore season at the University of North Dakota ended in a tough double overtime playoff loss in the first round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association NCAA tournament The next morning he signed with the Vancouver Canucks Hours later the 20-year-old was dressing with his new Canucks teammates in the visitors locker room at the Xcel Energy Center Talk about a whirlwind of 24 hours To make a special night even better Canucks coach Willie Desjardins came up
into room the dressing with an especially nice touch Instead of reading the starting lineup himself as he invited Brock’s usually did Desjardins to parents announce the team The surprise gesture was intended to create a memory for the family while also reminding his players of the importance of their own parents in helping them get to where they are Brock’s parents started reading off the names on the sheet When they got to the forwards Brock’s mom Laurie announced Daniel Sedin as the left wing and Henrik Sedin as center Then Brock’s dad Duke took it home And starting on right wing I can’t believe it Brock Boeser Duke read
I had a few tears in my eyes when they brought them in Brock said after the game I’m thankful for everything they’ve done for me Being able to see them before the game was definitely nice I was really happy to make them proud Not only did he make them proud he gave in attendance all of his supporters including many family members friends and even some of his North Dakota teammates good reason to cheer loudly On Your 6 Every time Boeser hits the ice with the Vancouver Canucks he wears the No 6 on his back to keep alive the memory of a close friend In August 2016 while Brock was playing for Team USA at a youth tournament in Europe four of his close friends from high school were involved in a terrible car crash Boeser’s former baseball teammate Ty Alyea was killed Alyea wore No 6 on his baseball jersey As Boeser found out the night of his NHL debut
No 6 was also the number his father Duke wore in high school As long as Boeser is a Canuck that will be his number too Halfway through the second period with the Canucks already leading 2 0 Boeser jammed home a rebound off teammate Bo Horvat's shot for his first NHL goal in his first NHL game Boeser scored his first NHL goal in his home state in front of friends and family as his Canucks beat the Minnesota Wild
