AUTHOR'S NOTE When I first learned about the importance of mother trees in the forest and how they helped their young saplings grow I was amazed It changed the way I think about how forests work and made me realize trees have families too just like we do Based on some of the current science I'd read and using my imagination I created a story of a mother tree and her sleepy offspring that reminds us that sometimes we all need a little help to grow
Great Mother Pin Oak had just woken up from her long winter's sleep She stretched the tips of her branches wide and reached as high as she could with the top of her crown Down by the base of her mighty trunk Little Pin Oak was still sleeping
