The Adventures of Fern Book 1: Fern and the First Day Disaster
A tortoise was voted safest animal for kindergarten first and second grade school transportation Many animals were suggested a fox a hare even an owl but they like to sleep all day Anyway the Fairy School Board and all the fairy parents voted for a tortoise So not cool It's not fair My sister gets to ride her new dragonfly to school She got it for Ostara the first true day of spring It even came in my sister's favorite color sky blue Her dragonfly is really fast It can fly forwards backwards and straight up and down It can even hover in one place So very cool Like my sister isn't cool enough She's always the best in her class at everything
AND she has big beautiful wings Her wings look like liquid turquoise and they shimmer like the feathers on a humming bird's chest She got the cool name too Shimmer My parents named her Shimmer because even her baby wings shimmered a beautiful blue when she was born
I got the name Fern so lame because I was born with green hair and green freckles I don't have my full wings yet either I know I know my sister's older than I am And when I'm in sixth grade like her maybe I will have beautiful wings and a new dragonfly to ride to school too FERN Coming
Chapter Two Rowan Tree School for Fairies etc I'm ready to go and sitting on top of the school tortoise with all the other babies We are heading to Rowan Tree School This is going to take forever Rowan Tree School is six oak trees east from where I live It is the best school in Riverfalls Forest It isn't just for fairies Elves pixies sprites and gnomes go to Rowan Tree too So even though I attend the Fairy School at Rowan Tree I get to learn some of the ways of elves pixies sprites and gnomes
