The Wild Life: Squirrel for a Day — page 3 — If you were a squirrel which one would you be Which Squirrel Are You There are three types of squirrels ground squirrels tree squirrels and flying squirrels Ground squirrels live on the ground or in underground burrows Tree squirrels live in trees Flying squirrels also live in trees but they have a special flap of skin that lets them glide in the air More than 200 species of squirrels live on every continent in the world except Australia and Antarctica GRAY SQUIRREL These tree squirrels live in backyards parks and other places where you might find humans Gray squirrels have a super sense of smell and will talk to other squirrels and make chittering sounds if they spot a predator SPOTTED GROUND SQUIRREL Known for having you guessed it many white spots on their backs these squirrels burrow underground to hibernate and store food They like to live in dry areas KAIBAB SQUIRREL How cute are those tufted ears and that fluffy white tail Kaibab squirrels are found in only one place Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona Squirrels are part of the rodent group of mammals Other rodents include chipmunks rats mice prairie dogs groundhogs and marmots
