couldn’t find the language arts book either So Vanessa’s desk stayed right next to mine She didn’t even move when we wrote in our daily writing logs I didn’t think she needed to sit so close to do that but she didn’t move her desk at all I tried to stay calm I didn’t say anything I thought over my options But I couldn’t move my desk away without bumping into Tyler If I did that he would say something and everyone would turn around again I didn’t want everyone staring again We had social studies next and of course there was no book That’s what happens when you start school in the middle of the day in the middle of the year No one is ready for you So the new girl’s desk stayed next to mine It was just like glue stuck forever Just like all of those stares I was getting from Courtney
