Lowlife Guppies Today should have been called Livvy Armstrong Day Livvy was Star of the Day That meant she got to read a book to the kindergartners and eat lunch with Ms Perry She also won a homework pass for bringing in the most box tops Her name was even announced over the loudspeaker for running the fastest mile in gym class 4
And at the end of the day Ms Perry made a special announcement Class as you know I didn’t want a class pet But after having lunch with Livvy I changed my mind Everyone cheered Ethan and I stared at each other We’d been bugging Ms Perry for a pet since the fi rst day of school And since it was her idea said Ms Perry she’s going to surprise us with a pet tomorrow Ethan crossed his arms Her idea I sighed At least we’ll have a pet Livvy bounced over to us I’m thinking of getting a goldfi sh A goldfi sh Ethan shrieked No way Anything but a goldfi sh 5
We always have goldfi sh Livvy In fi rst grade we had Salt and Pepper In second grade we had Pip and Pop Last year we had Tater and Tot No one wants a fi sh Tater was my favorite said Maxi moving her fi nger in a circle He’d swim round and round all day long That’s the only thing fi sh can do They’re boring I said The fi fth graders are going to call us lowlife guppies Again said Ethan He slumped down in his chair His face was red If you bring in a fi sh I won’t talk to you anymore Livvy looked surprised Then mad I didn’t say I was defi nitely getting a fi sh I’m going to Pet Palace tonight I might get a bearded gecko A gecko would be great I said Ethan has one It would be way better than a fi sh 6
