'Baa, Baa, Black Sheep' is an English nursery rhyme set to a French song variation. The rhyme’s melody, titled 'Ah! Vous dirai-je, maman', was used as a nursery rhyme in around 1760. One of the oldest English rhymes 'Baa, Baa, Black Sheep was written in 1731. The song hasn't changed much since it was written. It was first published in 1744 in Tommy Thumb's Pretty Song Book, the oldest surviving collection of English rhymes. The Baa Baa Black Sheep book is made up of eight lines which follow the rhyming pattern ABCBCDED.
