PREDATORS POUNCE IN SECOND HALF DESPITE DISRUPTIVE FAN by Mac McKenzie After a slow shooting start Coyote Canyon Middle’s boys basketball team 8 2 was finally able to pry the lid off the basket in the second half They made 8 of their final 17 shots from beyond the arc For much of the first half the game appeared to be a barn burner But in the end South Valley Charter 4 7 didn’t have the firepower to keep up The Predators handed South Valley its third loss in a row This win was an all-around team effort for the Predators Four of the five starters reached double figures The only Predator who couldn’t buy a bucket was Drew Borders Usually resident squad’s the
sharpshooter Borders couldn’t get the rim in his crosshairs tonight Unfortunately one of fans Drew just had one of those nights Coach Miller said with a shrug All good shooters have them I’m confident he can work through it The important thing is he was still there to cheer on his teammates the in attendance didn’t brush off Borders bricks so easily This fan spent much of the game loudly giving the player shooting tips When Borders passed up an open look in the second half the fan gave him an especially hard time Coach Miller finally told the fan to quiet down Once the rest of the Predators got hot this tense moment between coach and fan was mostly forgotten Winning as they say fixes everything And the Predators have won four in a row and seven of their last nine
CHAPTER 1 Stewart Mac McKenzie stares at his laptop As THE sportswriter for The Coyote Courier his middle school’s online newspaper Mac is in charge of reporting on all the biggest games As usual he’s working on a deadline And he’s running out of time Mac knows he should submit the story and be done with it The diehard sports fans in his school probably expected the game summary hours ago Besides Mac’s only in eighth grade There’s math and science and social studies and English homework to do But he keeps staring at his laptop Often Mac writes summaries of the game while it’s still going on He usually hits Submit as the final buzzer sounds But not this time This time he kept punching the keys of his laptop as the gym
