CHAPTER 1 WINTER IN THE WOODS Bigfoot stretches and yawns The cold January air seeps into his family’s cave He tries not to wake his mate or child Like him they are hungry Food is scarce at this time of year Bushes are empty In some stories Bigfoot lives alone In others he has a family
Bears picked every berry nut and root before sleeping for the winter Bigfoot is thirsty too But he doesn’t want to be seen by humans Even the short trip to the stream is risky He waits until he’s sure the coast is clear FUN FACT In (cid:29)(cid:27)(cid:24)(cid:29) hunters in Illinois spotted a creature they thought was Bigfoot The creature escaped by leaping 20 to 40 feet 6 to 12 m at a time
