CHAPTER 1 ON ONE LEG Carson Wentz and the Philadelphia Eagles offense appeared unstoppable It was Week 14 of the 2017 National Football League NFL season Wentz and the Eagles were facing the powerful Los Angeles Rams Wentz zipped passes all over the field In the first half he threw three touchdown passes Wentz launches a pass during a 2017 game against the Los Angeles Rams 5
Going into halftime the Eagles had a 24 14 lead But the Rams stormed back in the third quarter Los Angeles scored two touchdowns to take the lead 28 24 Now it was Wentz’s turn to get back to work He led the Eagles on a long drive At the Rams 2-yard line Wentz took the snap and rolled to his right Defenders crashed in on him but they were too slow Wentz leaped into the end zone for a score However the celebration was short Wentz had taken a hard hit to his knee and he came up limping To make matters worse the touchdown didn’t count The Eagles were called for a penalty 6
Wentz injures his leg as he dives into the end zone Still four plays later Wentz zipped a touchdown pass to Alshon Jeffery It was Wentz’s fourth touchdown pass of the game No one knew it at the time but he threw that touchdown with a torn ligament in his leg Wentz limped off the field He had led his team to victory but his incredible season was over 7
