than Rory Weber He’s in a band he’s on the football team and he’s a sophomore Having a party on the brain makes it hard to concentrate in class All morning all I can think about is that I need to be able to go to that Halloween party It’s time to cement my status as one of the cool kids In English Sylvia has partying on her mind too We’re having the Fourth Annual Slother Scare Scream Halloween Bash on Friday night she tells me This Friday night I ask stalling for time Of course Seven o’clock Sylvia says Costumes prizes and gross goodies as usual I just smile and nod I don’t know how to
tell Sylvia who’s super sweet but not very cool that I’m not sure I want to go this year In middle school a lot of my friends had to take younger brothers and sisters trick or-treating I’m the baby in my family so Monica and I got stuck with my bratty neighbor Nick and Monica’s stepsister Angela We always went to Sylvia’s party after we took the little kids home It kept Halloween from being a total waste Cider doughnuts goofy games and dancing to the Monster Mash was a blast when I was in eighth grade I’m in high school now I’m not really sure that’s what I feel like doing on one of the best party nights of the year So you’ll be there right Sylvia asks Luckily before I say anything she spots
Anna and rushes off Rory isn’t at our table when Anna and I sit down for lunch Everyone else is there though Anna can’t wait to announce the breaking news Sylvia is having her Halloween party again Anna says What’s her party like Chloe asks She went to Rock Creek Middle School so she’s never been to the Slother Scare Scream Halloween Bash It’s awesome Brad says Sylvia’s parents are total Halloween freaks Brad’s enthusiasm takes me by surprise
