This one time Jake the Zombie Slayer attacked the head zombie and cut his head off Rowan said Loads of blood squirted out everywhere Jace continued waving his arms for dramatic effect But then two heads popped out where the one had been Awesome said Mr Vega That’s disgusting said Mrs Vega frowning What was this movie rated Are you sure it’s appropriate for you guys It’s fine Mom Astrid said with a wave of her hand She leaned forward and in a quieter voice added But I might want to sleep with you guys tonight They continued to tell Mr Vega about the goriest parts of the movie Soon the family that had been looking for the museum entered the diner The woman and the teenage kids still wore the same bored expressions but the man was beaming
as he made his way over to the counter Thank you so much for your help he said as he clapped Rowan and Jace on the back Welcome to Mick’s Diner Mr Vega said warmly I’m glad the kids could be of some help Uh what did they do The man shook his head Oh I’m sorry How rude of me I’m Professor Harry Higgins he said as he extended his hand to Mr Vega These kids were most kind in helping me find your town’s amazing museum Amazing Mr Vega asked as he shook Professor Higgins’s hand Obviously confused he added The Somerville Museum Indeed the professor replied beaming He looked around the diner to make sure no one was listening before he leaned in and whispered I probably shouldn’t be saying anything yet but I may have just made a major historical discovery in your museum
CHAPTER TWO Professor Harry Higgins had a lot to say to his new acquaintances at the diner While his family settled into a booth near the back the professor shared with them how he had been in a bit of a rut While he had enjoyed his job teaching in the History Department at Yale University he had recently taken some time off from the classroom to work on a book Unfortunately the writing wasn’t going very well Professor Higgins explained that his solution to this rut had been to take a cross-country road trip with his family He was hoping the time together would bring them closer He had also planned stops along the route to visit historical sites and museums
to help him find inspiration for his book They had been on the road for over a week and the best thing Professor Higgins had found was a good pair of earplugs that blocked out his family’s whining and complaining He said his luck was beginning to change though He felt overjoyed about the discovery he’d made at the Somerville Museum His family did not share his enthusiasm however and he yearned to talk about his discovery with someone who might appreciate it The Vegas Quinn and Jace were definitely interested in hearing more about the discovery They settled Professor Higgins’s family at a table with a chef salad for Mrs Higgins and burgers and fries for Jefferson and Tabitha Once Mrs Vega gave them the password for the Wi-Fi the three of them sat in contented silence eating their meals and staring at their phones
