The White House

The White House in Washington, D.C, is one of the most famous buildings in the world. Sometimes called “the people’s house”, it is home to the president and his family. With construction beginning in 1792, and being occupied by President John Adams in 1800, it was burned down by British troops in the war of 1812. Reconstructed and renovated many times since to meet the needs of each president, the White House stands as symbol of the American government and the people’s commitment to democracy.
