SOUTH CAROLINA GEOGRAPHY South South Carolina is shaped roughly like an upside down triangle with one point facing toward the south To the southeast is the Atlantic Ocean The state of North Carolina is to the north To the southwest the Savannah River forms the border with the state of Georgia In the far northwestern corner of the state are the Blue Ridge Mountains They are part of the Appalachian Mountains which stretch from Alabama all the way north to Canada South Carolina's highest point is in the Blue Ridge Mountains It is Sassafras Mountain which soars 3 560 feet 1 085 m high The Jocassee Gorges Wilderness Area Is in northwestern South Carolina
