Sue Hendrickson visited Sue at the Field Museum Sue Hendrickson discovered the dinosaur in 1990 Hendrickson was an amateur paleontologist She worked with a team from the Black Hills Institute in South Dakota They were looking for fossils on a ranch that belonged to a man 6
named Maurice Williams One morning their truck got a flat tire So Hendrickson decided to explore a cliff she had spotted from a distance When she arrived she saw three large vertebrae sticking out of the cliff She had found the remains of an enormous T rex The bones were still connected just as they had been when the animal was alive The Black Hills Institute paid Williams 5,000 for the rights to unearth the bones For 17 days six people dug more than 250 bones from the rocks They brought the bones to the Black Hills Institute The specimen was the largest and most complete T rex ever discovered 7
