BUTTERFLIES Butterflies are insects Insects have six legs and one or two pairs of wings Butterflies have two pairs of wings Their wings and legs are connected to the part of their body called the thorax 4 thorax Butterflies live in many places around the world They can live in forests deserts grasslands and mountains They do not have nests or permanent homes Many butterflies migrate in the spring and fall If adult butterflies stay in one place year round they may hibernate in holes in trees or other safe places
