Ocean Puzzles — page 2 — You’re on a guided tour of a deep-water exploration platform far out in the Pacific Ocean and you are the first to board a new experimental submarine As you step inside however waves rock the platform and you fall into the submarine hitting a switch panel Suddenly the submarine door swings shut and it launches into the ocean You’ll have to take control OCEAN PUZZLES INTRODUCTION This is a special kind of book It contains a story with lots of puzzles but these aren’t normal puzzles like you will have seen before These puzzles don’t tell you exactly what to do they provide only a certain amount of information and then it’s up to you to work out what to do and how to solve them If you get stuck or aren’t sure how to solve a puzzle there are hints provided The hints are an important part of each puzzle and you will need them for at least a few of the puzzles When reading the hints for a puzzle read them one at a time and only read the later hints if you are still stuck Working out what to do is part of the fun 5

Ocean Puzzles — page 3 — A B C D TAKING CONTROL You rush over to the control panels and grab hold of what you assume is the main control stick for the sub Unfortunately it seems to be locked in place and a loud beeping draws your attention to the navigation screen which is displaying this message INSERT ACTIVATION KEYS Can you work out which key goes into which hole in the panel You will need to imagine what each shape would look like when rotated so you can decide which one fits where You need to activate the control system before you can steer the submarine There are four activation keys and four slots for them to fit into ACTIVATION KEYS 6NEED A HINT Turn to page 26

Ocean Puzzles — page 4 — A BC D E FG H I J K L With the keys in place you try to use the control stick to steer the submarine back toward the surface but nothing happens You look around and spot some loose cables on a panel labeled CONTROL CONNECTORS These must need to join together You will need to imagine turning one of each pair upside down so they will fit together This will flip each pattern Pair the connectors together so that the red pins slot into the black holes CONTROL CONNECTORS NEED THE SOLUTION Turn to page 30 7
