Breaking Cat News — page 2 — INTRODUCTION The idea for Breaking Cat News struck me one night with a CRASH when our cat Lupin knocked everything off a shelf in our home In a flash our other cats Elvis and Puck were on the scene investigating and meowing like crazy while my husband and I cleaned up the mess I began joking speaking for them in hard boiled reporter voices and something clicked When the shelf was settled drew up a quick comic about a team of cat reporters delivering news just for cats I shared it with friends and almost immediately it took off from a few cat drawings on a spare piece of card stock to the very book you hold in your hands The premise is simple cats reporting on the news that matters to cats I based the three main reporters on our own cats Cynical no nonsense Elvis and shy sweet sensitive Puck are the reporter kitties in the field while the adventurous jokester Lupin serves as anchor cat Together they break headlines on the food bowl new plants mysterious red dots strange cats in the yard and all the daily happenings in their home From time to time they report on their People a young couple with a growing family not unlike my own okay just like my own I try my best to write Breaking Cat News for folks of any age I want parents to enjoy reading it with their kids I want people to be equally excited to show it to their friend and to their grandmother It's made up of moments and behaviors any cat owner will easily recognize woven through a familiar sounding news broadcast I try to keep their world small but their stories big to make the comic an enjoyable place to visit again and again I hope this book will give you somewhere to go whenever you need a smile a laugh or to feel like the very biggest spoon that will make sense in time I promise Books like boxes are never empty because they are always filled with adventure These are the adventures I have written for you
