information straight from the source If there were any hot new gadgets out there Bridget would be one of the first to know about them and write about them and Trevor should certainly know that Bridget was motivated to prove to Trevor and everyone else in Tech Club that she was still the techie expert at Blue Lake Junior High She’d write a great blog post and their blog would win that award That would be enough to dismiss any doubters But the only way to do that was to find the hot new tech gadget Trevor wanted and blog about it That was why Bridget was tiptoeing into her dad’s office Sunday morning She knew her dad had been working on a new project and she knew it was a big one He showed all his usual signs he’d been checking his texts and emails constantly he’d stop in midsentence when he got a text from someone at Lingo and he’d been working from Lingo’s headquarters more often than from home for the past few weeks By now Bridget knew all these signs by heart Something huge was coming and Bridget had to figure out what it was Her reputation depended on it 8
Unfortunately Bridget’s dad never told her about the projects he was working on until they were completed and scheduled to be released That meant she had no choice but to figure it out on her own As Bridget looked around her dad’s office she realized that this wasn’t going to be easy This new project must really have him fazed she thought His office was messier than usual Papers and cords were scattered around the room Spare monitors were piled up in a corner Something was in the works for sure Maybe something big Really big 9
2 Something New Bridget listened carefully for any sound of her dad stirring in his bedroom upstairs but no all was still Of course he didn’t mind if she hung out in his office to use the printer or even borrow his tablet charger But Bridget was strictly forbidden from using her dad’s PC because of all the important Lingo information he kept on it She hesitated another moment and scanned the room There were papers strewn all over the desk but Bridget knew her dad would keep anything important on his computer probably in securely encrypted files She walked over to her dad’s computer and wiggled the mouse The monitor brightened as the PC came to life 10
Bridget knew she couldn’t look at any of the protected files on her dad’s computer but sometimes there were other ways to find things She did a search for recently viewed images She saw many that were of Lingo products already on the market GameBlast DigiPen YouViews Some were pictures of her playing soccer Finally she spotted an image that she didn’t recognize She clicked on it to zoom in A label on the image read TechPaper Just then Bridget heard the door creak behind her She jumped and glanced over her shoulder Bridget sighed relieved It was just Sunny her golden retriever standing in the doorway of the office her furry tail swishing back and forth as she watched Bridget Okay come on in But be quiet Bridget whispered Bridget expanded the image It looked like a tablet computer She frowned disappointed A tablet This wasn’t the type of hot new tech gadget she was looking for Tablets were cool but they were old news No one at Blue Lake Junior High 11
